Brown and Burgundy Costume
Fall 2000
This costume has been built in 4 distinct pieces,
the Bridle, the Breastcollar, the Blanket, and the Saddle. The saddle does not fit Huck Bey
because of the flowing mane on the model, so I created the blanket to act as the whole
costume for Huck. Also, in previous costumes, the breastcollar hooked onto the
saddle, but this is separate. I found it fits more models this way, and
can be used with just the bridle, as shown below:
There are 20 Brown and 17 Burgundy tassels on the breastcollar. The beadwork is
all done with invisible thread, and uses green, red, and brownish purple rocaille beads, gold
Czech glass seed and petite beads, round gold-tone beads, and 10KT gold
plated bugle beads. All other beadwork on the costume uses the same beads.
The Bridle features double reins, each beaded and ending with a workinggold-tone
buckle. There are 10 Brown and 10 Burgundy tassles on it.
This is the most complex bridle I've done yet, and it's hard to describe so I'll
let the pictures speak for themselves:
The blanket has 50 Brown and 48 Burgundy tassels, and all the same beads as the breast collar.
The beadwork is not woven, however; the tassels are sewn on individually. The tapestry ribbon I've used
glitters with antique gold metallic thread throughout. The top picture on this page shows the shimmery
effect the best, but it does no justice whatsoever to it. I've used a brown braided trim, and a flat antique
gold trim inside of that to frame the gorgeous fabric. The girth is made of the same flat trim, and
a working buckle is used to tighten it up! It looks phenominal in person!!
This part of the costume looks great on Huck Bey!!
As you can see above, the underside of the saddl eis finished and trimmed with burgundy braid,
so fraying will not be a problem. The underside of the blanket is brown leather, making the
costume sturdy. It will hold it's shape very well, too!
